This happened just about a year ago but I feel like the world has already forgotten. It's the most recent major airline disaster

The one guy that survived only survived because he literally jumped off the plane in the very last seconds. I believe he pried open the emergency exit door and jumped out. Most people would not have done so even if they knew the plane was about to hit the ground with 220,000lbs of jet fuel

Because airline disasters are so rare, people will bat an eye at tragedies like these. Still, statistically, the safest way to travel, so no reason to bring it up.

I'm pretty sure it was pilot mass murder/suicide. Like Malaysia Airlines 370 probably was, Germanwings Flight 9525, and a few others.

People forgot it because the media dropped it. Out of sight, out of mind. People have short memories and they forget unless they have some strong reason to keep caring about a particular news story after the media drops it.
