I've always found joker (2019) to be rather juvenile in terms of writing. It's basically "Joker is mentally ill!" "Mental illness bad!" They never go much into how exactly his mental illness effects him outside of crazy schizo disillusions and uncontrollable laughter. Meanwhile Taxi Driver portrays imo a far more realistic representation of mental illness. Mainly autism or aspergers. This scene especially is extremely relatable and I'm sure most guys here have had a similar experience

He has a complete inability to fit in or be normal no matter how much he tries. The rest of the movie continues doing a great job of showing his condition. Although it's extremely overdone and unbelievable, taking Betsie to the porno is an example of how he subconsciously ruins all his relationships by being non NT. Meanwhile in Joker we just get a bunch of crazy schizo disillusions.

Travis also has a misanthropic view of the world after experiencing societal rot while Joker has more of a "rich men bad" outlook.

Then there's Taxi Driver's portray of loneliness

Overall while i'd consider both of them rather shallow propaganda and would suggest you watch something like whatever (1999) I think out of the two Taxi Driver is far more relatable.

Joker movie was overrated AF and boring, I definitely have to watch this movie sometime though.

I have been rewatching the hobbit trilogy, I live my entire life as if I am stuck in the past I swear.

I agree as well, I really love this movie.

joker 2019 is an exact rip off of this movie.

You got any shows you can recommend me to watch brocel?

Gotta say the soundtrack in Taxi Driver also captures a complete sense of despair and isolation.
Elaborate
Taxi Driver has a sub message of "racism bad!" And some of Travis's decisions are intentionally represented as insane and unrelatable so we root against him. Joker is anti capitalist. All of Joker's problems are blamed on the boogiman that is capitalism.

Based.

Those movies were mediocre but I do have some good memories of watching them when they came out.

Yep, they rip off King of Comedy as well. The thing is however they make the same mistake American Psycho made and try to mimmick the ending by having an incoherent schizo disillusion because there's a misconception that Taxi Driver and King of Comedy both ended in schizo disillusions.

Yes a lot

Game of Thrones

Prison Break (from my avatar)

The boys

Definitely watch these 3
shit trilogy
I used to like it when I was younger, I just watch it for the mindless action and nostalgia.

Yeah its a nostalgia watch for me, I just watch shit for nostalgia now I guess, I fucking hate watching something and halfway through I havent enjoyed it at all

This was the first piece of media that really made me feel understood and not ridiculed because of being non-NT

The boys is shitty propaganda.

My biggest gripe with it was that it derailed near the end. It felt like it had an identity crisis, like it was ultimately confused about what it was aiming to be. It’s been a minute since I first watched it, but from what I remember, Travis’ decisions came with no great consequences, and as a result, the movie felt inconsequential, with not enough substance to help compensate for the insane amount of “let me have you over the edge of your seat” moments, like a ticking time bomb with neither a defuse nor explosion. It felt too safe at times I guess is what I’m trying to say.

No, the point of the end of the movie was that he was building up towards a violent explosion and his outburst towards the pimps was no different than his assassination attempt. He's still the same mentally ill borderline sociopath. However this time he's celebrated as a hero for unleashing his violent primitive urges on a socially acceptable target.

It's a critique of "toxic masculinity," "capitalism" "trump" "nationalism" and "white supremacy." Typical leftist shit.

:feelsclown:

I get that it was trying to expose normie hypocrisy, but the overall tone felt inconsistent. One minute it felt like one thing, and then the next it was trying to be another (which you could make the argument that it’s the same with a lot of movies from the 70s/80s and how they were a product of their time).

I like 'em both, but I would've much preferred if Joker was its standalone movie

Taxi drivER is a better movie overall joker was made to be normie slop

Lol taht scene is so relatable for non ntness you just feel absent even when surrounded with people

"Are you talking to me?"

Really good thread on the taxi driver

Isn't he a slayer in the movie

Kind of the point of the movie

It ends exactly like it started

Do they have taxi driver on HBO max? I wanna see it more then ever.

Far better than Joker

I like both movies, and joker 2 is most likely going to suck.

Imagine how sad a movie like that would be. Joker is watered down to keep the action aspect. The movie summarizes the sad parts of his life because goldfish attention span normies would never understand.

@Atavistic Autist thoughts on this movie?

I really really really want to watch that movie but I really really really hate deniro.

I agree. The isolation and yearning for validation is captured well in Taxi Driver.

Good thread I always said Joker was meh, but that's because we've seen movies like taxi driver and falling down while the new generation hasn't. Taxi driver was better but also never got a rewatch from me so it couldn't be that great probably for the reasons you pointed out that it was subversive propaganda but aimed at a 80s/90s audience. I gotta check out that whatever movie now I guess.

Do you hate him because he's one of these libtards or his acting? Goodfellas is easily top 10 for me so I gotta just accept that I'm gonna watch movies made by people who hate me.

Taxi Driver is simply a much better movie, a work of art tbh. Joker is good and nice and all that but really ultimately on the level of a meme.

Acting, also he seems like an asshole, also the mole on his face.
