I've always found joker (2019) to be rather juvenile in terms of writing. It's basically "Joker is mentally ill!" "Mental illness bad!" They never go much into how exactly his mental illness effects him outside of crazy schizo disillusions and uncontrollable laughter. Meanwhile Taxi Driver portrays imo a far more realistic representation of mental illness. Mainly autism or aspergers. This scene especially is extremely relatable and I'm sure most guys here have had a similar experience

He has a complete inability to fit in or be normal no matter how much he tries. The rest of the movie continues doing a great job of showing his condition. Although it's extremely overdone and unbelievable, taking Betsie to the porno is an example of how he subconsciously ruins all his relationships by being non NT. Meanwhile in Joker we just get a bunch of crazy schizo disillusions.
Travis also has a misanthropic view of the world after experiencing societal rot while Joker has more of a "rich men bad" outlook.

Then there's Taxi Driver's portray of loneliness

Overall while i'd consider both of them rather shallow propaganda and would suggest you watch something like whatever (1999) I think out of the two Taxi Driver is far more relatable.
