Yeah, I know these topics are on the rise and becoming a bit tiring, but nothing makes me more happy than hammering the nail over and over. Because it is so much tied up with everything, with inceldom, the different pills, the culture wars.

All politics are inherently self-interested. Altruism is a lie, a fabrication a posteriori. This is a line of thought you can find in such intellectuals as Max Stirner, Friedrich Nietzsche, Gustave Le Bon, and Yuval Noah Harari. The reason this isn't clear is because humans use the tactics of plausible deniability and shared fictions to advance their interests. This is a lying strategy a step above the very basic dissimulation and treachery tactics chimpanzees are known to use to climb the steps of power. Also, people are often unaware of the subconscious/unconscious drives in their ideology.

I am going to translate several human political sentences into their true meanings.

We need socialism for the greater good -> I resent having to wageslave like a mule and I secretly hate my boss. I am not as successful as I had hoped, I have lost all of my money on booze and cigarettes, and I am envious as fuck of rich people who live a more comfortable life than mine. I want to rob them like a common criminal but because it's illegal and I don't want to be hanged, I want to convince a sufficiently large number of co-conspirators to let me do it and partake in the theft.

Alternatively: I am a tenured university professor. So far, I have achieved a good amount of success in my life, but I want to have it all. The status, the bitches, the money and the political power. That's why I am a communist. I hate the nobility and the rich. In the Soviet Union, university professors ruled over the former wealthy and noblemen, as it should be.

We need feminism now! -> My greatest fear is being married off by my parents to an ugly man and having to obey him until my dying breath. I will gladly submit to Chad and offer my buttocks to him for a good spanking, but the perspective of an ugly man doing this to me makes me gag.

White Nationalism is our only future! We need a future for white children and the beauty of aryan women! -> I am white, but ugly, friendless, powerless and a loser. Dumb Stacies tower over me and humiliate me on a daily basis. My status in the modern West is lower than that of the lowest Negro during apartheid. Give me back my status! Give it back to me! That wasn't what I was talking about. I meant that politics is a big show for the people at home. We have no say or choice, it's all a hoax. But, I guess what I said also has dual meaning to it so either way both of what we said are correct.

I exaggerated a bit the "translations" for rhetorical effect and polemics. My point still stands: consciously or not, people always vote for their best personal interests.

Sometimes, these personal interests align with those of many others. That's the most altruism you'll ever get in politics.

Not talking about politics specifically, but i wouldn't say altruism is a total lie, i believe that it's possible for some exceptionnal, rare individuals to reach a level of egolesness/selflessness that can makes them transcend the separation me/the other. But they are really exceptionnal, even among expert buddhist meditators, you'll find just one in 1000 for instance.

But yeah, i agree that as long as you identify with your ego, everything you do is self-interrested, including charity, as long as there is a separation, a distinction between "Me", and "The other", there is conflict and selfishness, the other is just used for the benefit of the self, be it for a political purpose, for virtue signaling, or to feel better about oneself.

Is doing a rigorous self-assesment subservient to your material self-interest? if not, then why would you be doing it according to your theory?

You do it because you have genuine ideals. You value reason and truth, that's why you refuse to keep bullshitting yourself and you engage in introspection. In the same way, some people may believe in altruism because they value justice and the happiness of other people.

These ideals are not up above like Plato believed, they are a product of our material mind, but this doesn't make them any less worthy, indeed it proves that they are part of our nature.

That being said, there are quite clearly political systems that let their people down and need tweaking through legislation to objectively improve the lives of their people. If I was American, I would certainly endorse a candidate from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party (not those who support censorship of right wing speakers on college campuses, I’m against this as any advocate of free-speech should be.) The US, richest country in the world, is the only first world nation where around 1 million go bankrupt and 40,000 people die because they lack access to basic healthcare. (Per year)

Though I dislike the convention of politics, mainly because of the partisanship and it’s inevitable stifling of the process of discourse, I recognise that in some cases it is necessary to take a side in order to solve a specific problem.

Totally. Even when this ideal implies self-sacrifice (eg death on the battlefield), you have this ideal because you can personally benefit for it. Richard Dawkins actually wrote about it in the Selfish Gene. He says in passing that self-delusion about the altruism of your beliefs makes self-interested beliefs seem more "pure" to others, and therefore there must have been a selection for people who are able to delude themselves. This argument is developed a lot more by Yuval Noah Harari in a more recent book, Sapiens.
