Steam deck is really weak, so no point in getting it anymore. Better wait for a next iteration of deck, even buying switch 2 is a better choice than deck 1 atm. You can easily emulate old games on common cheap phones just buy some gamepad with a holder for your screen.

I only give a pass to gaming laptops if you are an expat/nomad who has to relocate frequently, but even then laptops are underpowered while costing more. might as well invest in a lightweight console like series s or just get a mini itx/micro atx build that fits in your backpack
I prefer consoles just because of poor optimisation of pc games. I don't mind handheld sometimes until I get cramps. I grew up with GB, GBA and the DS so handhelds are like a staple for me. I don't really game much as gaming is becoming boring.
What is the switch 2 specs? Yes steam deck is nearly 3 years old but in terms of emulation it's pretty decent, not to mention Linux and all that shit. I don't think some cheap phones could emulate PS2 or PS3 games. I don't like android or IOS.
idk the exact specs but they say the performance is akin to PS4 but I doubt switch will still get 60 fps outside of nintendo exclusives
It should be a bit weaker than rtx 3050 which is fine for a mobile device. Steam deck is waaaaay below that (gtx 1050 level). Cheap phones can easily emulate ps2 games at 30 or 60fps and on 1x or 1.5-2x resolution depending on a title and i did it on my mediocre nubia neo 2. However compability is much better on hardware that is running on pc os instead of android so deck is better in that regard, ps3 emulation is barely doable on deck look at this shit:

PlayStation 4 pro has 4k and ps4/ps4 slim 1080p. Nintendo always sell old hardware at expensive price.
