This song was released in 1973.

I was told a million times
Of all the troubles in my way
Might to grow a little wiser
Little better every day

But if I crossed a million rivers
And I rode a million miles
Then I'd still be where I started
Bread and butter for a smile

This is the usual self-improvement horsecrap that you get from coaches and society. Work on your personality, go outside more, hit the gym, and do a hundred things. But the more you try, the more you realize how devoid of meaning everything is and how you end up in the same place every time like you had not even left.

Well, I sold a million mirrors
In a shop in alleyway
But I never saw my face
In any window any day

Brutal experience that everyone here can relate to.

Well, they say your folks are telling you
To be a superstar
But I tell you just be satisfied
And stay right where you are

Not "satisfied" in the sense that you are perfect and have nothing to change, but in the sense that working so hard to achieve an unrealistic goal or something not worth the cost is pointless. Just embrace yourself and be satisfied or grateful for what you have and who you are regardless.

You don't have to change. There's no real point.

I respect him in spite of that. In a healthy society, maybe he would have received treatment and overcome his twisted desires. He was bisexual with a strong preference for men, yet the love of his life, as the song goes, was a woman. Mary Austin. Mercury left his fortune to her in his time of dying. She was having none of that disgusting homosexual behavior of which even he was ashamed, but she truly liked him until the end. We can only wonder how life would have turned out for him if homosexuality was not in the way.

You got to give him credit, though. Freddie Mercury was a curious case of a high testosterone man who could look feminine and masculine at the same time, had sex with men, and still looked macho. Mercury with long hair, painted nails, and fur coats still masculinitymogged the average man to the grave and beyond.
