It really would — women would literally riot and it would be glorious to behold. If nothing else it would go one step towards putting men and women on a more even footing, men can’t fraud their looks like women do.

Makes complete sense. Assuming they are not deceptive while saying "I use makeup for myself", it still can be explained from evolutionary standpoint. There is clear evolutionary incentive to present herself as more fertile, worthy and even interested to have offspring. Even they may not be aware of it, they will do it subconsciously.
The hypocrisy is, they are all for presenting themself as attractive, but if a man notices it, then there is problem. Again, it also can be explained.
