PENNSYLVANIA — Several students were heard shouting sexist and vulgar chants at a female goalie during a hockey game in Armstrong County.
The incident took place some time last week as the Mars Fighting Planets faced the Armstrong River Hawks at the Belmont Ice Complex in Kittanning.
“She’s a wh***” and “suck our d***,” Armstrong students could be heard yelling in a livestream video on Live Barn’s Facebook page.
Many who watched the video in real time reacted on Facebook and in online forums, calling the chants disgusting and unacceptable.
Armstrong principal Kirk Lorigan said the school is “appalled and embarrassed” at the actions of its students and apologized on behalf of Armstrong. He also offered a personal apology to the female Mars goalie.
All students at Armstrong High School have since been banned from attending school hockey games, and a group of students responsible for directing the chants now face possible disciplinary action, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
In the meantime, support is growing for the female goalie. Many people are planning on showing up with signs to cheer her on during the next Mars game.

A local school district is apologizing and some students could be banned from watching their high school hockey team in person.
It comes after those students yelled sexist and vulgar chants at a female goalie on an opposing team.

The Armstrong School District assistant superintendent said students from the district were involved in those chants, and they could be banned from future games. He said leaders are “embarrassed,” and that this isn’t “representative of how we want our students to behave.”
The assistant superintendent added that they’ve also reached out to the Mars Area School District to apologize to the goaltender and school administration.
