That is a good point. Why have the similar threads feature when we're not allowed to post in old threads? It would be consistent, if threads got auto-locked after a while and if the similar threads feature only showed threads that have been auto-locked after being inactive for some period of time.
That, or just get rid of the no-necroposting rule.
