I just got done with watching this film in the theater, and while it was your typical "shut off your brain" action superhero movie, I still have some problems with it. Something that was absent from the movie which really needed to be there was a motivation for Thanos. Why was he so fixated on wiping out half of all life in the universe? I know he did it for "balance" and so on, but why would he even care to bestow his "mercy" upon the universe? I heard in the comics he was solicited by Death (a love interest) to kill, but she made no appearance in this movie.
Another gripe I have with the movie is the death of half (or more than half) of the characters at the end due to Thanos's cleansing. I'm not opposed to this, but it's obvious that Disney will have to bring back the beloved characters somehow. It just makes this part of the movie much less impactful when you know Marvel and Disney can't live without their Black Panther and Spider-Man.
To anyone who's seen it, what are your thoughts?
