Traditionally, dogs have been used by humans more so as companions or to help us with hunting for survival, as opposed to us using them directly for survival. I do agree, the whole culture of dog-worship needs to end but at the end of the day, dogs are a good companion to humans in a natural state(hunting, tracking, etc).

Lot's of animals have utility to humans but that doesn't necessarily mean we can't eat them (horses for transportation, cows for milk, pigs for locating certain plants)
