Honestly I like both equally.
I grew up with 3d mario and mainly 2d Sonic. Via[DS] titles Sonic rush
Luckily the Sonic games I played were good. My first 3d Sonic game was Sonic heroes for the Ps2 and I just recently started playing Sonic adventure 2.

i only like the early sonic games, i dislike the 3d ones. That being said, i still prefer sonic. The only positive of Mario is that fact that there is such a large variety of games of various styles and genres. But Sonic got the better designs and music, just listen to the old games OST is just great every single track.
