Sometimes I truly believe that anime is worse than real life

I was watching an anime today where some otaku guy had four or five different girls all falling in love with him. At first I was just sad seeing this, then I got confused, as he had a very weird persoanlity, similar to otakus in real life. Obviously he had some side that the girls loved, that being his serious side, but the stuff he said was so trite and cliche that real life girls would ghost you for saying it (source: me in high school).

This all me very depressed. Stuff like this is only why I watch either moe or hard shonen like Dragon Ball or Jojo nowadays. It's not that I don't have good taste, but rather that any show that puts a big emphasis on romance is bound to make me want to kill myself.

I initially enjoyed things like Welcome to the NHK and Watamote, but they lost their appeal when you get further into it and it starts pushing normie culture and it displays NEET culture as inherently bad. It also makes all negative occurrences the fault of the Otaku rather than society failing.
