Well this was inevitable. Replacing all the spark plugs on my Truck-kun. Not as easy as on a CRV or RDX, but no were as shitty as I thought it would be cknsidering the MDX or my Truck-kun is a V6. But because Honda hates normal, the V6 was put in horizontally instead of verticly. So step one was actually replacing the hood struts witch that alone was a bitch to do because I was being a dumbass about it.

Step 2 is remove the 2 plastic covers. The top one and front half one. After that I had to get a HW6 to remove these allen bolts that hold the outer half of the plugs. Oh and remove the wires of course. Then the outer rubber plug peices.

Use a magnet after losening and unscreing the old plugs, and add in anti seize to the new plugs and reinstall half of it all. Not really that bad except the radiator was in the fucking way so Id be reliant on the U joint adapter on my dewalt kit.

Back half. Despite the shitty visibility and needing the ujkint adapter the whole time, was actually easeyer then the front half even if I needed to use a short ladder because it was mostly a void. No big ass radiator in my fucking way. Instead I had to remove a throttle peice thats electricly controlled and move it. Proccess is lretty much the same but I lost a bolt so I had to borrow my grandmas car to get new M6-1.0 bolts to re-install the throttle peice.

Ill say it like this. Why accura didnt base there SUV from the CRV first is beyond me. Mabe they understood Americans are dumb enough to have the "bigger is better mindset" so they chose there MDX to be based off the pilot.

Either way, theres a strong line between owning a luxry car (if it still should be considered luxury due to it being 233K miles) and working on a luxury car. I myself have crossed that line a couple times with my Truck-kun. Oil changes, brake/rotor replacements. Spark plugs. Removing/re-installing the foot rest a billion times for dumb reasons. Ill tell yout what. You reap what you sow.

I chose to go for Truck-kun, and got the truck-kun experience. At least I dont have to replace the head gasket anytime soon. Next thing Ill probably do is either transmission work or replacing the parking brake shoes. Both will have there own challenges.

Thats what I call it since the MDX is a luxuryized Pilot for one meaning it has that big ass V6 engine. And it has the same shitty MPG as a truck.
mind running me over?

Most of us arent really wealthy and when we get our first car, itll need work done. Its good to learn to work on ones own car. Theres a difference between owning and keeping.

It's not hard just don't overtighten them

That’s crazy my truck is a simple pushrod v6 and the spark plugs are right there in the open once you pull the wire off

U joint adapter for a dewalt?

Is that some kind of variable angle drillbit/ socket post thingy?

the back 3 plugs are a bitch to do on a fwd v6

About that. My engine is placed in like a FWD but is AWD. The transfercase is attatched or better yet integral to the transmssion. You knkw how I say honda hates normal? Hondas automatics in the day before CVTs wasnt a normal planetary gear transmission. Instead it was a 3 shaft automatic that many mechanics thought was a AMT. Its not. It just looks like one. The clutch plates were on the shafts and the shafts themselfs would double as the vein between soilenoids and the clutch plates.

But my experience is that the back half of the engine is way easeyer due to the fact there only one thing really in my way and that thing can be removed.

Oh it is not hard at all as long as there isnt too much shit in the fucking way. Witch wasnt that much for me.

A year ago my mom gave me a dewalt mechanics kit for christmas. Came in pretty handy for all the shit I had to do on my truck-kun. But you put the adapter between the socket and either the extansion bar or ratchet. Infact it was mandatory for the 3 rear plugs.

Cool, I'm looking it up.

Looks like a bunch of wrenches and stuff...?

I have a 20v impact screwdriver thingy and its really good on stuck bolts. Saved my ass a few times.

Seems like a sweet kit. Easy to keep everything tidy. Probably high quality too?

I got a lot of dwalt stuff. Even a tiny chainsaw! It's awesome.

I just have the last gen M12 impact wrench for a impact. Dont really need anything too powerfull just yet. It can remove lugnuts perfectly fine.

too much shit in the fucking way
this is the problem with working on all modern vehicles

all those fancy features, emissions shit, performance shit, safety shit gotta get stuffed somewhere

(probably not as big of a deal on an older mdx, but definitely is on newer stuff)

Remember to change your engine every 3-4 miles.

Also did you make sure to buy the plugs from a reputable supplier and not amazon or eBay crap. Lots of fake shit on Amazon. It’s always better to buy a part more expensive at a reputable store than do the work twice.
