I'm so done with microslop and their AI slop cobbled updates, promising to fix the OS, when they just throw more slop at it, hoping it will fix it. I'm having to suffer with almost every update breaking shit on my work laptop, like reinstalling shit I intentionally uninstalled, breaking drivers or just day to day functionality like the search bar in the taskbar. I've had far less problems on my private pc running win10 with extended security updates. But that is expiring this year, and I do not want to move over to win11 and take part in this adware/spyware riddled, resource hogging, hot pile of garbage.

I've been running a pure arch linux install on my laptop with the lts kernel, and I like it so far, but I'm becoming older, and I don't have the energy to mess with the OS itself, patching configs, and constantly keeping on top of changes in packages. It's just not viable for daily use, where I just want to use my PC without worry.

Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and also thinking about making the move over to the penguin? And the ones that have, what flavor did you go for and why? What are your experiences so far?

haven't touched a windows system in over a decade

i use manjaro kde as daily

no reason to use windows unless youre a gamer

I use mint, it's easier for WINCUCK users to migrate from Windows using mint as the installation is quite easy and there isn't much user configuration required as it can update most software installed using it's GUI updater unless you do it via command line or an external package.

My first experience with Linux was actually TailsOS (modified version of Debian) since it was a safer way to use Tor without having Windows spy tracker BS and also it's very locked down so there isn't really user configuration in regards to updates unless you choose to enable Superuser if you want install external software that isn't bundled in by default.

I have to use it for work, but it’s garbage. It’s better to deal with the headache of Linux breaking then use microslop winfags 11. Win11 just runs so slow, I have seen it cripple machines that ran win 10 fine for no added benefit.

all you had to do is disable windows updates. you can go on win11 23h2 which is the last usuable version and disable all telemetry using the winutil by chris titus. its convenient and what ive been doing. but windows is fucking annoying and buggy, eventually it becomes more configuring and fucking around than you wouldve ever done on linux

true linoox gaming really just isn't there since most devs don't bother with its support considering the very small and tiny market share and the requirement to basically program a whole new port and the whole anti-cheats stuff since it's quite easy to cheat using that OS compared to wincucks.

Used it a decade ago. Not a super huge fan of cinnamon and just debian in general. I remember I needed to install the lastest version of a program, and the official repos only had the last major version, which was several months old. I think I also tried building the latest version myself on debian and ultimately failed.

TailsOS, haven't heard about it in over a decade. Remember watching OSFirstTimer video on it. It's still around?

i mean, if you spend hours hacking with it and fucking with it you could get like 50% of games to work

But its really not worth the frustration other than to say "look what I was able to get work!"

Linux gaming is far better than it ever was now. Performance is still spotty, but some games do run better on linux. Anti-cheat and DRM is the biggest killers here though. I do wanna play GTA 6 when it comes out. Can't do that on linux :cryfeels:

Maybe just opt for a friendlier Linux distro like Mint.

from what i've experienced, debian-based distros (mint, mx, ubuntu, etc) seem to have the best hardware support in general. MX even had the volume buttons and brightness working on my laptop.

manjaro (arch based) seems to support my (fairly basic) desktop hardware well

fedora had horrible support, nothing worked for me on that shit

Yeah the official repos are out of date and Debian is known to have slow ass updates since they are point release distros instead of something like Arch which is a rolling release always updating releasing new versions of itself.

They recently merged with the Tor project so now it's overseen by them which makes updates more in-line with the latest versions of the browser. Many people just don't use it unless they wanna access the Dark web more securely without having a dedicated device for it.

Frankly GUI (cinnamon, kde, gnome, etc) is probably more important to the user experience than the actual underlying distro (debian, fedora, etc)

Debian is meant to be super duper stable so they often have old shit (they take time to test it)

arch is more cutting edge but more shit breaks

different distros have different philosophies on this, some split the difference

Game compatibility, is what stops me from switching to linux.

Shiiiii, I was gonna try fedora next. Looks pretty good on the surface. Very good documentation. Torvalds himself uses it.

nothing works out of the box really

you will be screwing around with shit for hours

it was very frustrating

also, don't use the "spins", they are all garbage and untested. Only use Fedora with Gnome

I tried gnome and unity... I can't decide which on I hate the most. KDE is so far my favorite, and seems promising as its built on qt, which is backed by enterprise company. They are still doing improvements, and I'm looking forward to what plasma 7 will be like.

Exactly why Linux is winning. It’s just bad security to be on unpatched windows with it being the most targeted os. (Inb4 nothing has happened to me) It’s just win11 is so damm slow on good hardware, it’s not like win11 features if ai is actually helping you do better writing or gaming, or anything really. It’s a garbage vibe coded India made piece of shit. It’s so bad that paid apps like office are getting ads in them.

I don't use an nvidia card, but I remember hearing a win11 update breaking nvidia graphics drivers, which then nvidia had to make a patch for. Srly this makes arch seem more stable. win11 is a joke.

EDIT: it was the KB5074109 (January update), that did that.

Well not just gamingpill, but even creativepill. I can't find any good photo editing or vector graphics editing software on linux. Don't even mention gimp and inkscape, they are horrible. No FL Studio for the musiccels... Actually I can't even find a decent music player that would be on par with f2k on windows. Davinci Resolve I think is the best video editing software you can get on linux, which is fine tbh. As much as I hate adobe and their scummy subscription, they are also one of the reasons people are not ready to make the switch.

You use gentoo, right? What's it like?
yeah, been stable and easy for me to use, it can get annoying at times when having to compile a large package or dependacy but once done it has been the most stable i've experienced

I like windows 11 :feelsautistic:

Linux for life

win11 will go down as the worst os ever, it was designed by a jeet foid who never even went on PC in her entire life and made childrens books

I just use iobit driver booster
