The most intelligent people I met during uni were all smokers. Including professors/PhDs/postdocs I have worked with. The smartest minds who ever existed smoked pipe, Einstein, Schrodinger etc. Coincidence?

Interesting read

Smokers benefit from increased attention, memory and much more. I have smoked a few cigs before in my life and I can attest it does help with attention span. Even nicotine gum I have found to help (but it helps to less of a degree according to the data). Not encouraging smoking, but if you are in academia, based on the data, you are in quite a disadvantage compared to smokers.

Not to forget the social aspect*

It also reduces your overall lifespan, win win jfl.

I started smoking in January. Thought it would help on socialization aspects, it didn't.
But it's absolutely life-changing when I have anxiety, I take my cigarettes, I go out, I walk to the river and smoke some until I'm calmed.
I go out much much often, at least three times a day. It's life-changing.

But I'm already addicted to it. But should I care? Probably not.

Tbh lol. Just wish i had started in undergrads, was my most sleep-deprived period ever. Only 4-5 hrs a sleep every day cuz i had to wake up early for commutes. Legit nearly falling asleep during each lecture. well at least i made it through that shit hole

I've heard it help some guy with his anxiety too, quite paradoxical... Regarding social for me it felt awkward sometimes during lunch breaks when i was with these smokers outside, standing there just drinking my coffee while they also were smoking. I actually do like the smell of tobacco ngl, just dont like how expensive smoking is. Fuck the health aspect. I'll prob start again when Corona is over and life gets back to normal.

The social aspect is more of a myth than anything, but it does help you concentrate, but at this point i just want to decrease my lifespan by 2 decades.

avoiding death still leads to death.

It definitely helped out with concentration and mental workload during my last semester in uni. I also started doing e-cigs again with the highest nicotine eliquids available (20mg/ml). I think it is more convenient because i can just do it in my room

Smoking is not good, the increase of focus is because of the abstinence relief.

Hell yeah. Good thread. The best teacher in our school is like 70 yo, smoked in his entire life.

it's not solely due to withdrawal relief, there is a real measurable effect. read the article and the (abstracts of) scientific papers that are referenced therein

:feelshehe:

It's the first and most base urge you have when being born into this world. Surely oral fixation leaves a lasting effect on our sub consciousness.

I would too tend to think it leaves a lasting imprint. Someone I know was still sucking his thumb all the way through middle school. I've even heard of adults doing it

My boss was a smoker and he was like a genius.
