Get a nice knife or collect diffrent knives. Swords are too big.
If you do get one, make sure it is functional and not just a wall-hanger. Preferably made out of 10xx carbon steel or 5160 spring steel or perhaps CPM 3V. A good heat treat is mandatory no matter what material is used. Get it either from a custom bladesmith or a well-known sword manufacturer such as Darksword Armory or Albion.
Also, while it's a cool possession to have, swords are obviously largely useless for actual fighting these days.
