A few weeks ago, my friends and I called 911 after discovering my incel roommate had attempted suicide by knife. Officers arrived and had us all wait in the hallway of my home and moments later the incel comes out of his cave and charges at officers with the knife and both officers fired 12 shots total, which killed him.



I now know it is definitely not like the movies/tv shows because nobody comes to clean up the crime scene so I had to see the aftermath of my apartment the next day. I attempted to clean myself but I just could not bring myself to do it so I was responsible for paying a team to do it. That was $3700 which homeowners insurance does not cover. On top of this, my apartment will not allow me to leave the unit with no penalty (penalty is being rent responsible for the remaining month) and they will not move me into a new unit until the balance is paid for damages which is bullet holes in the door, wall, and floor.



I find it extremely absurd that I have even had to pay a single penny for something that was not my fault or doing. I’ve called places for help (Victim compensation groups, police departments, outreach programs to help pay for clean up) but I just get the runaround and I am tired of being walked on and having to pay for this. What are my rights as a rentoid? What options do I have? Any advice helps!
