It seems indeed very likely that we were born at least 50 years too early. I don't discount the possibility that Kurzweil is right and progress has entered an exponential phase, but it is a forlorn hope at best despite some evidence that he may be right. Many of kurzweil's 2009 predictions were pretty far off and while I realize that 2019 is a year away (and the end of 2019 is 19 months from now) I think it's pretty obvious that his 2019 predictions will turn out to be way off.

That said, machine learning has been evolving pretty rapidly. Some experts say AI that is able to pass the turing test is only 15-20 years off....though many still say it's much further off. But if we have true AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) in ~20 years then it's possible that technological progress will very rapidly accelerate from that point. Still a long shot though.

Cryonics, on the other hand, is a pipe dream. Brain cells die within 5-10 minutes after clinical death. It's pretty much impossible to get someone frozen within that short time frame. Even if you could, it's extremely unlikely you'd be able to bring them back to life with any possible future technology. The fact of the matter is, everyone cryogenically frozen is just in a very expensive coffin.
