I think much of the engagement comes from what makes her do anything meaning triggers of action
there are probably 4 classes of triggers (unless you can find more) :

2 timed event : a Lullabye for example
3 toggled modes : or in other words context replies
4 stand by triggered actions : for example cats start to prrr after a certain amount of petting, or someone who claims to be bored after
receiving not much input for a while
