How is grading done in US? You get grades based on class performance that determines your GPA or some bollocks? No end of year exams?

Lol, where I am from they use numbers instead of letter grades. 4, 3, 2, 1, and R (instead of F).

We take regular major test usually at the end of a "section" of what we are learning. Add in some quizzes that affect less of our grade(like 20% compared to 80% of a end of section test) and are taken in the middle of the section and homework and that's how they determine our grade.
We usually have 2-3 end of section test during each quarter. At least that's how they did it in my shithole schools I went to.
