They deem themselves to be the masters of their own fate and think that they got into their position by hard work and not by luck, if they admitted that genetic traits mattered they would admit that their success didn't stem from the strength of their will, but rather from the immutable and stochastically determined traits they inherited which would ultimately mean that they didn't do shit and just got a better hand dealt by fate, which would deny them the opportunity to look down on others due to failing and the sweet illusion that they are the complete masters of their fate - a thought that would completely destroy their ego.
