First off it must be assumed honesty and good intent on the part of the author. He must have something to say, and every single word in his text should be purposeful and significant. He must not deceive. But most important of all is honesty in the part of the reader - he must have a clear purpose in reading, the intention to take something out of the text and appropriate it for himself. The reader cannot be self deceiving by pretending to understand the text, or reading in a hurry in order to finish the book in a short time. The text is a means of dialogue with the author, it shouldnt be passively consumed - if it doesn't speak to you, stop reading immediatedly. Otherwise youre just imprinting in your head the discourse of another person, which does not concern you. Quality over quantity in reading, and respect
