It can go wrong. If you're being bullied, it can mean that you're too beta to fight back and they'll continue. To be fair, you might want to just ignore them if they are physically stronger than you in order to avoid getting your ass kicked.

I did this a lot as a kid since I was too weak to stand up against my bullies. Had things been different I would've bashed my bullies' heads into a wall or stomped on their throats.
