The sickness of our age results to a high degree from the following (wrong) assumption: "Progress is good!" How often did you hear people insulting others for holding humanity back or stopping "progress"? These people argue for progress only in tautologies (they don't argue in terms of advantages/disadvantages for a society/for an individual, but only in terms of progress for the sake of progress).

Almost like the stereotype they draw of conservatives/reactionaries: They say that they only hold onto the past for the sake of it while finding no justification for it, this is incredibly funny/hypocritical because they do the same - but only with progress/change. Neither tradition nor progress/change are inherently good or bad things. Only what we will ultimately get out of it is important.

And this is where they fail: They always talk about progress in technological/societal terms (which is a synonym for more globohomo shit and more technocracy) without any kind of teleology (e.g. no consideration for the goals/consequences), just progressing for the sake of progressing - and everyone who doubts it is seen as a primitivist/luddite/reactionary/etc. And the worst thing: People let them get away with it. They never ask "Why?" - and even if they did they would just get an Ad-Hominem thrown at them and then the debate is officially over.

This also goes for the individual level where they preach self-improvement/personal growth. On one hand they say "Don't compare yourself to others and do it for yourself!" (which is in itself without teleology/without real goals and only for private satisfaction in the platonic sense without a quantifiable external metric because it's entirely subjective, which then would imply that everything could count as self-improvement independent of the effort or results which would make deadlifting 500lbs and going to the fridge for a snack equivalent) and on the other hand they think that they can look down on you for being too lazy in that regard (and therefore admit that only results matter in the end, that you are constantly compared with others, which would then automatically imply that there are hopeless cases too where self-improvement wouldn't help due to absolutely detrimental prerequisites).

Most things that are preached by normalfags are tautologies and they could never argue for a "Why?" - they say it simply because it sounds good.
