Twisted teenager Chloe Coplen-Anderson was hiding her pregnancy from her parents
A teenager could spend six decades behind bars after she slaughtered her newborn son just moments after giving birth to him. Chloe Coplen-Anderson, 18, slit the throat of her baby after delivering him in secret in the bedroom she'd grown up in.
A judge has warned she will spend the next 35 to 60 years in prison after she pleaded no contest to second-degree murder for the killing. Prosecutors for the Nebraska Attorney General's Office said the twisted teen, then 16, went downstairs to the kitchen of her family home in Gordon to retrieve a kitchen knife after delivering her son on November 6, 2023.
Coplen-Anderson - who was hiding her pregnancy from her parents - returned to the bedroom, where she slashed the knife across the boy's throat.
The teen's dad somehow found out about the slain child and contacted the Gordon Police Department, raising the alarm about a stillborn child that wasn't breathing.
He also told them "it was too late" to save him", according to court documents.
An officer attended the property where he found the teen's mother, who had found "marks" on the baby.
The mother told the officer that her daughter was responsible for killing the child.
Both parents then confessed to seeing their daughter taking a knife from the kitchen the same day, PEOPLE reports.
Court records seen by KOLN claimed that the lifeless baby's windpipe had been hacked, and had sustained multiple knife wounds on the side of his chest. Coplen-Anderson had wrapped the mutilated baby in a towel.
On their first sweep, police didn't initially discover the murder weapon, but Coplen-Anderson's father later contacted them again to say the bloody knife had been found in his daughter's closet.
Todd Lancaster, defending the teen, said that Coplen-Anderson had been abused by family members and that the killing was caused by years of trauma and mental health issues.
She was also a victim of an illegal sexual encounter after being impregnated by a 19-year-old when she was 15, a year below the age of consent in Nebraska.
The defendant has already spent two years behind bars, but will be at least 51 years old when released from prison. If she faces the longer sentence, she would be 76 years old.
In February, a teen mum in France was accused of stabbing her newborn baby to death before sending a video of the slaughter to the infant's father.
The baby boy's mother, aged 17, was named by authorities as the main suspect after the tragic incident at a flat in Tarare, eastern France. Local reports alleged she sent footage to a man, reportedly the child's father, shortly after the killing, who then phoned the police. The Lyon public prosecutor's office has now opened an investigation into the murder of a minor under 15 years old, according to news broadcaster BFM TV.
