I'm pretty sure you can find better answers from people who give a fuck about that stuff like your school counselors. Every trucel here is just going to tell you to avoid uni like the plague, me included. It'll rape you financially and depress you even more.

In the US, go to community college first and then transfer to a university. There is no reason not to, the education is the exact same but it is cheaper.

Going to a high profile research college doesn't matter unless you want to get your PhD and want to work in research. Absolute bottom of the barrel colleges are good enough if you just want a decent paying job. Just make sure it has the proper regional accreditation.
