The word God came from the Germanic language (Gott), which means deity in many pre-christian European cults.

But "Al-lah" means Abrahamic god of prophets in Bible and Torah. "Al" means the article "The" and "ilah" means "deity", so Al-ilah = Allah means the "the god". The word "ilah" is Arabic cognate of "Elah/Elohim" in Aramaic/Hebrew. Islam is very specific and meticulous about etymology of "god". Muslims are not generally allowed to call the supreme deity by any other names.
