Distorted title. The pope actually said that extramarital sex doesn't have the same gravity as certain other sins, which is true. Murder is worse than fornication, for example.

Murderers and fornicators will go to Hell, but the two will receive different punishments.

Only Protestants believe that all sins are equal in gravity. Catholics believe in different punishments in Hell and in sins that at most condemn to Purgatory (which is temporary, unlike Hell).
