Fair point... but kings and royalty were definitely rich/wealthy in the Middle Ages, and plantation owners were rich in the 19th century as well. Or factory owners in the 20th century. The prices back then were very different. I don't see the logic behind that article. again, fair points, but I disagree that poverty doesn't exist in the west, regardless of life-expectancy increase or GDP per Capita - I think that's what the article says. It's always relative to the average income/net-worth around you and the prices where you live. homeless people are poor, or those who can only afford bread and water but nothing else, those people are poor, whereas factory owners 100 years ago could afford a nice house, cars, enough food etc.What about this graph by Bill Gates?
