It's not what you know, it's who you know. Being able to integrate your way into the lives of those with sway will get you further in life than anything. To do so will require attractiveness, being good at manipulation & reading ppl or having something about you of value.

A socially skilled retard will fair better than an intelligent socially inept loner.

I'd say being socially skilled is the most important skill, specifically I mean being manipulative. Almost everybody that is successful is successful because they are good at getting people to do or think what they want them to do or think. It doesn't even have to be lying, it can just be knowing how to adjust your verbal and nonverbal language in a given situation to maximize your benefit. Extroversion is good too though, because the more extroverted you are, the more you engage in social interactions which means you'll establish more useful connections and hone your skills further, extroversion probably has a positive correlation with social skills.
