Alek Minassian has consistently refused to give his prosecutors access to his electronic devices. They hired several private security firms to try to crack his passwords but their attempts were unsuccessful.

Toronto police spent more than eight months continually trying to guess the password to unlock the laptop of Alek Minassian, the admitted driver during the 2018 Toronto van attack that killed 10 people.

In the face of “almost infinite” combinations of letters, numbers and symbols, the automated process had not been successful, according to police documents dated this May.

Toronto police say investigators were unable to crack the password and encryption on both Minassian’s Apple MacBook Pro laptop and the Asus cellphone he carried when arrested at the scene of the carnage from the April 23, 2018, attack.

Thats some next level encryption - i wonder what kind of software that based encryptioncel was using

This is standard modern encryption. Provided that the password is sufficiently complex and long (16 characters is enough), then AES-128 is essentially unbreakable.

So we'll never get to see the chat history between him and ER? :feelsbadman:

lmao hilarious tbh, wonder what he wants to hide, ER left his laptop on in his room before going on rampage

they should hire that 4chan hacker guy

They will crack them when they have a quantumcomputer in the future

They prbly already cracked it and saw that he suffered a horrible past which would explain his actions. Can't have the public sympathizing or they'll actually start thinking.

If he didn't want people to see it, why didn't he just throw it away knowing that he will go on rampage anyway?

Or did he want to deliberately waste time of police?

Or maybe he didn't give a fuck or thought he could come back home after vaning ppl and they won't find him JFL

He didn't do anything that complex right? He had a sufficiently long and random password.

Damn, he needs to teach me how to ensure such encryption. I don't want anyone to find out about my interracial porn collection.

And in the end it was probably something like "iloveelliotrodgerabc"
