Against the rules? Don't think so.
There was a rule made not long after the site was launched against users posting selfies of themselves, but nothing else apart from that, outside of my knowledge.

Users such as @4everDark have kept their avi as themselves for ages without getting questioned about it nor it removed, and @whrt has done the same.
