I think this is kind of a false binary. A bullshit concept came up by scammy self help gurus. Because if you know in some way you are going to lose, it’s retarted to “try”. Try what, what is it that they aren’t talking about? And this is usually just said in way alluding to getting ahead in the rat race.”go from working dead end job cel to this vague idea of better and you might have more goodies and be betabux. Most self help gurus litteralt say jack shit nothing, the better advice would be to fuck everybody off that you can and don’t get injured or lose too much capital or you will be FUCKED.

I don’t think it’s a dumb quote in context. If you are playing some sport or event; you play to win because that has momentum, competitors might get nerves. But with business ventures it’s pretty dumb, you should be very calculated: not listening to some vague ass dude bro cliches. Most of the time it traps you inside some limiting bullshit, which is great for them. And honestly most people love limiting you, even in something as boring as entrepreneurial endeavors
