Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809–1865), the first to declare himself an "anarchist", was a staunch, vocal anti-feminist who fiercely opposed gender equality. He believed women were physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men, arguing that their only true societal roles were confined to the domestic sphere.
