. Obviously it's not as extreme, but, even if subconsciously, people very much judge others by their looks and decide who to socialize with based on them. Robert Sapolsky for example mentioned in one of his lectures a study where people judged faces manipulated to differ in tiny ways the conscious mind doesn't even pick up on, such as a nose being 10% wider or so, and even though the faces were basically identical to the naked eye, they still consistently rated the faces modified to be just a tiny bit less attractive to be less friendly and trustworthy.
