I go to a relatively tiny gym in a small town so most people I see at my gym are regulars who I see most times, yet whenever I happen to see them outside of the gym like walking past them at the street, they don't nod at me, they don't acknowledge me, they don't smile at me and barely make eye contact, there's been a few guys who I've tried to make the effort to nod or smile at them and their either fake smile back in this creeped out way or they say "you alright mate?" In this pityful slow way like they think I'm disabled.

What hurts the most is the knowledge that if I was any other random guy and not me, they wouldn't be behaving like this and they would actually acknowledge me like a normal human, but because I am me they at worst look creeped out and even somewhat offended that I tried nodding at them or they just patronise me, I'm sick of being treated like a fucking diseased animal hours away from being put down

That's why I don't talk to or look at anyone unless I absolutely need to. Such as buying something, but I use self checkout when I can. I don't even ask for directions or help.
