This Steam shit is leading to the death of physical game media. Instead of owning a shelf full of cool video game boxes now you are trusting some Jew website to hold all your games for you. This is really bad. Physical video games are nearly dead. GameStop is the only store left. The next consoles will probably be entirely digital. Even Nintendo is gay now and their newest console is basically a soulless IPad with two joysticks attached to it. Older video game consoles had so much soul and style. Even PC gaming use to have physical CDs. Now everything is just digital media and smartphone tablet garbage where you need to be connected to the internet to play offline and everything is full of micro transactions.

Good kill all physical games i can download game faster than going to the shop and buying stupid box (that doesn't contain any disk anyway).

You can buy Bomb Rush Cyberpunk for less than a dollar and download it and play after 5mins of receiving a steam key.

But digital is all bad :feels:

Everquest, Wow, Guild Wars, Planetside 1 (already shut down) were at the beginning online only games and yet you couldn't buy digital copy you had to buy a physical copy (Only later they have received digital keys too). So your argument doesn't make sesne it's up to devs to pick if they want online drm or not. Even on consoles you had online only drmed boxed games like PSO

that was released in 2000. You don't seem to be complaining about them. You have short memory or are a zoomer or worse alphagen that doesn't remember shit since you are too young.

imagine the faces of physical media activists for gaming when on top of 70 dollar game they have to pay double the price for crappy SSD it comes with :feelskek:

That's why it's good practice to pirate everything, you can expect to lose digital purchases but if you have a local install that doesn't need to connect to any verification server then it's not a concern.

explain to me how leaving my house, driving all the way to gamestop, looking for a game that they might not even have in stock and paying 30% more for a disc that will stop working in 1-2 years is better than downloading all of your games online completely for free.

This is peak console pleb cope, only your kind is afraid of losing digital games. I can just download all of my games for free on rutracker and put them on a usb drive. they'll last forever.

Agreed, that's partly why I pirate everything. I don't trust Steam or any of these game app things.

1-2 years? Wtf are you doing with your discs. Using them as a drink coaster?

Disc rot is supposedly a thing but unless he lives in an area with a really harsh and or corrosive environment climate wise it’ll take like thirty years or more for that to even start happening.

That said by harsh or corrosive climates I mean in a really hot and humid area like the tropics or by the sea ie all that salt floating around everywhere and effecting everything breaking stuff down etc, etc.

Though by “stop working” he probably means online multiplayer games that are dependent on the servers being up.

In any case dudes like this are generally too shortsighted to realize and understand that physical is better all around for the gamers as a whole.

I only care that some form of physical media of games exist so they can always be preserved.

Once discs became the norm, I embraced digital. Disc drives in all consoles are cheaply made and will break. Replacing them is usually more of a pain in the ass than it's worth.

Fuck that, I'll never go back to the KEEP YOUR FILTHY JEW HANDS OFF MY BITS OF SHITTY PLASTIC GARBAGE mentality.

Getting raped by the Sony Gaystation 3 is what turned me off disc / cartridge ownership and into an online service enjoyer.
  1. Very expensive
  2. Shit disc reader components that lose their ability to see / boot double layer discs after a couple of years
  3. Comes bundled with Sony's love for region codes... "what's that inkwell? You want to watch some cool movies you found in the op shop / thrift store AND PAID FOR, on your uber expensive Sony Gaystation that you ALSO PAID FOR? Well guess what incel - YOU CAN'T because the disc is the wrong region. Suck my sexhaving Chang Sony Jap gook cock incel loser."

All that, or I can just use steam.
I've had my steam account for years, and I can think of ONE occasion when the server was offline, and I couldn't spend a weekend gaming so I had to go and touch grass instead.

Contrast that to the PS3, where I more or less quit playing one of my favorite games because it is double layer disc, and I frequently had to keep trying for 40 minutes before it would see the disc and read it.

lol this, the disc readers that these supposedly based "physical" consoles come with are flaky as fuck, got burned several times both with PS2 and PS3

The PS2 has a laser thing that gets really dusty and needs to be cleaned like once a year. It’s not broken you just have to open it up and wipe off the blue thingy I can’t remember what it’s called. But you have to do that every once in a while.

1 tiny scratch = money gone
Not true. The discs can have a lot of scratches and still work. You can also get the resurfaced if they are really bad but none of this is necessary if you just put it in the case when you are done. I think ruined discs are just from kids who must just not even put them back when they are done.

PC gaming is fucking stupid

Gameboy pocket, DS, 3DS, N64, GameCube, Wii, Switch, PS2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One
I feel like it's an option only available to richcels to own several consoles on top of the price of the games. The best alternative is to own the legion go or another portable gaming machine and install emudeck so you don't have to worry about configuration and store all your pirated games/roms on sd cards.

I accumulated them over my entire life.

How many computers have you gone through?
In my case, I've always resold my computer equipment at a reasonable price that covered 1/3 of the initial purchase price but it's possible to upgrade your PC configuration at a less expensive price that will last longer than a console you have to buy every year + games

Usually pc gamers graphics card costs more than a console.

Yeah, but I don't care since almost every modern game is woke as fuck and shitty slop. Old games are better in every way except graphically.

Very good point. I actually had my Steam account get banned and I lost over 400 dollars worth of games. Shit pissed me off so much I just decided to going back to my 360.

Before Microsoft discontinued the 360, I bought an extra three of them and put them in a fireproof safe along with some action figures. My thought process being I can play on my 360 forever since I'll have extra consoles for parts and stuff.

Shit is so fucking unoptimized too. SInce everyone is using different stuff devlopers have issues trying to accomodate so many different variables. On console, games 99% of the time run better than PC.

Great thing about console is the shit just fucking works. So many games on pc I had error messages and had to spend hours figuring out how to fix it. After 12 hours of school and work, last fucking thing I wanted to do was goof around with figuring out how to play my goddamn game.

I think physical games were fine in the PS2 era, and half of the time fine in the PS3 era, however from PS4 era and onward discs became more of a "key" rather than a game, what i mean by this, is that when you put the disc on your consoles the game is outdated and in most cases broken, so in order to play you are forced to download updates/patches. If your console hdd breaks/malfunctions, you lose those updates and your disc becomes practically useless, surely you can re-download those updates but that's an inconvenient and a time wasting process if you own a lot of games, and doomed if servers close. Also let's not forget about the liability of firmware, newer games require newer firmware in order to start.
In case it was unclear, i was referring strictly to consoles however Steam isn't completely safe either, but the difference is that you can back up & crack your already fully updated digital games (denuvo being an exception), so in any bad-case scenario you can just re-copy your back-up and you're good to go.
Having said all that, i understand the mentality of wanting to exchange your money (which is physical) with a product that you can touch instead of thin air.

This is why piracy is king

Tbh physical games died like a decade ago. I would love to have newer releases physically, but it just is how it is. I do have hundreds of physical games that I have bought over the years, though.

This used to be true on PC, not so much anymore. Hardware compatibility is much improved. If you buy a prebuilt now, it's basically like a console while gaming.

a lot of us are poorfags and already didn't have physical media tho.

one problem with pirated games is that while they let you play offline, they are usually not up to date. (arguably releasing unfinished and buggy games is an anti-piracy measure jfl)

yeah I got prebuilt Legion T5 and it's good.
the problem is many games now EXPECT you to have an RTX video card just to run at some shitty fps like 30-40 anyway.
the game Stalker 2 is a prime example.
