It becomes abundantly clear what watamote is really about once you start reading it. It's basically the experiences of an ugly socially awkward male superimposed on a kawaii anime cunt. What she goes through are extremely male-centric scenarios which most people here have experienced (and all women haven't). By identifying these behavior with a cute girl, the incel reader gains hope that there is in fact an awkward girl in his future who really is desperate like he is

Doesn't surprise me at all. I was bluepilled when watamote came out and I dreamed about finding a girl like tomoko one day

The reason why Watamote and Tomoko are so incredibly attractive to lower tier men and incels in denial is because the author of the manga is male. This is clearly visible in the way she behaves and reacts to certain situations, as well as how it is that she can remain very socially isolated for months at a time. It is next to impossible for a woman to find herself in such a situation, as groups of females usually scoop up the stragglers based on the straggling woman's social capital, looks, or to virtue-signal.

Once you realise this, the manga becomes significantly less believable and realistic. The same goes for the character of Hannah in Thirteen Reasons Why, a book (and later a show) once again written by men, which leads to a female character behaving in a masculine fashion (although not to the extent of Watamote) and generates false self-identification among low-tier men.

Here's the issue: Tomoko became a normalfag. A lesbian normalfag. Now in the manga she's surrounded by friends, has perspective boyfriends, is really close to a girl or two.
The manga has gone on past the point where it should have closed off but the author won't end it. Everyone who liked Watamote is praying for its death because its become an abomination.
