It's a different story with 20 post count grays but man it really does feel like a betrayal when its a well-established user.

You made a thread about a topical event at the peak time when it was being discussed on here, of course people were going to use this thread to congregate and discuss what was happening.
Plus sometimes people read high effort threads but don't reply because they don't have anything to add.

A lot of people come here for shitposting yeah, then others prefer higher IQ discussion and others prefer a bit a both.
I would say this form has a variety of different types of users.

There are also people who shitpost 90% of the time but enjoy having deeper conversations when they are in the mood for it or when it's waranted, it's not really like you have to belong to one camp exclusively.
Either way I'm not bothered by what people do on here as long as they aren't ruining the experience for other users.

I mean yeah, you can't expect something to be popular just because you put a lot of effort into it, but that doesn't mean the forum doesn't have a place for high-IQ content still, high effort posts will be the posts that still get talked about and referenced years later, while threads like this serve their purpose for the time they were created but likely won't be relevant in the near future.
Slop content is always going to get the most initial engagement on any site since that's more accessible and easy to engage with. I know personally I'm not always in the mood to have high IQ discussion on here, I just want to unwind, relax and maybe blow off some steam.

Yes you are right, the overwhelming majority of threads including high effort threads will be forgotten with time but the cream of the crop will be remembered and talked about for a long time.
I don't think we disagree about this.
I guess my initial point was just that different types of threads have different roles and there isn't anything wrong with that.
