Then there was the case with Michael Gira from Swans, where the guy's legion acolytes immediately about-faced on him because they "believe wymyn" without even waiting for details or corroboration. I remember people on message boards around then trying to tar him with shit like "he even looks like a scary rapist" and "he wrote a song called 'Raping a Slave'". What a joke it must be to be an artist with a public profile in Current Year. If you want any reasonably effective way to get your work out there, you have to play by the tacit rules of social liberalism. Shit like Bandcamp and online media generally was supposed to "democratize" the musical landscape; as usual it was more of a euphemism for "homogenize".
