Looks are entirely genetic. So good looking father means the child has a much higher probability of being good looking. Note I'm saying "higher probability" as genetic recombination is a thing.
Also looks are the first thing people notice when they see you, and they'll make assumptions about you based on that. (see: halo/failo effect)
That said, I just thought of an interesting thought experiment. I think if there was a way to reliably and accurately gauge IQ just by looking at someone, as in you could see their IQ like you can see their face and height, women would go for IQ over looks. As in if things always worked this way, women would have evolved to go for IQ above everything else. Face and height would still matter of course. I wonder if how unpopular this opinion is....let me test it out here.
