The ancient Greek, Roman, Persian civilizations severely limited women's rights. They were not allowed to vote and influence culture in any way. Those same civilizations reeped only rewards for limiting women's rights. the Rennaisance period as well.
The truth is that we are currently living in an extremely soft and decadent society. Unfortunately those are the consequences of being too developed. Life gets easier, there is nothing to fight and strive for and so we start allowing previously dangerous to civilization behavior.
We are living in the new dark ages. The age of decade, late-stage capitalism, consumerism and stupidity however the good news are that things won't stay that way.
History has shown that eventually things get better after decades of dark ages a new Rennaisance arrives, however the question is whether it's going to happen when we are still young or much later.
One thing's for sure - Throughout human's history empires have tried many things to stay influential for the rest of history, however none of them ever succeded in that regard. No one has successfuly defeated history, history repeats itself. I believe that modern technologies are unable to defeat the perpetual repetitiveness of history.
