Just once in my life I asked a foid out and she rejected me obviously, it was during studies, a Becky I have known for few years from the high school times and for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to make a move on her 
Other than that I never even talked to an unknown foid unless introduced to some by somone and obviously not on a dating background.
Never mind the so called approaching that I have read about, it would mean an absolute disaster for me.
