I find it quite amazing how much people follow the principle of "no smoke without fire", at least these days.

I think in the past people gave the benefit of the doubt more but now we're all on thin ice especially if you're within certain demographics and if you get accused of certain types of crimes.

I've been thinking recently that an important thing to do is try to determine what types of crimes those are that they seem particularly keen to prosecute/investigate people for and then be very careful around them, even if what you're doing is technically legal.
