Normie has a dream to be a youtuber star/media producer/make video games/whatever trendy shit there is but refuses to accept there is massive competition for any sort of glamour or popular job.

Mention the competition and they get pissed and deny it exists. Mention survivor bias on an online forum and get your post removed.

That kind of blindness is required to even try earnestly. It's the same with people opening restaurants (which fail at an astounding rate) or getting into acting or making music/games. In my opinion it's okay to cultivate one's own blindness as long as you don't put everything on the line and can recover from the very probable failure.

at least guys who try to be indie game makers, it cost them nothing but living expenses

guys who open restaurants ARE DELUSIONAL AS FUCK. I've met them, talked to them and tried to talk at least two of them out of it.
They instantly hated me. Their shit failed less than a year later in the exact way I said it would fail. (lack of customers, employees cheating you, high rent)

Tbh, i never managed to understand how normies can be so oblivious. I always thought to myself, that they must be borderline solipsistic, to ignore the existence of competition to such an high degree. Expecially since i was never capable of doing that. Whenever i made plans to achieve, literally anything, the though of my potential competition was always one of the first things that came to my mind. In the end this way of thinking, pretty much always prevented me from even trying to succeed, since i though to myself that it would be in vein. I guess you could say that i envy normies for exactly that. Since even if they should fail, (which most of them will) they call at least say that they tried.

Media just show the side of the winners. Like that movie with Will Smith, Pursuit of happyness. They show the minority of minority who had some luck and won in life, not the amount of losers who were divorce raped and drowned in debt because of the "follow your dreams" advice. That's not how it works in real life, most fail miserably, but they have been indoctrinated by corporations to believe that if they work hard enough they will be successful, which is simply not true.
