Yes, I agree. Likely the pronunciation is “eff-oid,” which would take the indefinite article “an” since it precedes a vowel sound.

It’s insulting niche slang for “person that presents as female”. It’s pronounced “eff-oid”, starting with a vowel sound, so it takes “an”. Not a word I would encourage English learners to use.

I'm going to disagree with the other commenter here. So yes, this is the territory of incel slang. Originally, they had coined the word "femoid", which was debatably either a portmanteau of "female android" or a warping of "female" in the style of older terms like "leftoid", which was crafted purely to be a derogatory term.


"Foid" is a shortening of "femoid". The "an" part actually comes from memes designed to mock incels by making up quotes with incel terminology and (intentionally) poor grammar in order to depict them as stupid.
