I asked AI and it said that gasoline fires in particular get incredibly hot, being around 950°C. Apparently, even if you're on fire for three seconds—which is roughly the time that he was on fire for—it's enough to cause severe second and third degree burns all over your body. It also apparently destroys your lungs considering you inhale the fumes from the fire, which are incredibly hot and scorch your lungs. I imagine he probably took in a breath right before he hit the water.
If AI isn't just exaggerating here, he's probably screwed or damned to agonizing pain all of his life—which is arguably worse than death. Doesn't help that he jumped into some random pool of water after burning off all protective layers of his skin all over his body...
