You see this label that proudly declares "HANDCRAFTED LEATHER"? It was attached to a belt that I recently picked up for less than $20 at a local department store. I thought I had scored a great deal. After all, "handcrafted" leather belts typically go for much more online. How could I go wrong?
It turns out that the 2-inch label was made of "handcrafted leather". The belt itself was made of a combination of "pleather" (fake leather) and fragments of leftover, low grade leather mixed with a binder, and coated with a shiny, cheap coloring to make it look legit.
Yes, it's perfectly legal to pull off this kind of misleading advertising. There are a myriad other sneaky tactics that companies employ to deceive consumers. They're everywhere. Their goal is to steal your money, while incurring the least cost. Buyer beware.
The whole world is like this on every level. In fact, humans don't differ much from animal predators in the wild that devise a multitude of creative schemes to deceive, entrap and consume their prey. And, whether you're aware of it or not, we're all engaged in a constant, ongoing war against other living things, from other humans right down to the tiniest microbes. They're all looking to kill you and make your bloodline extinct, so that they can hoard the earth's limited resources for themselves. History is a testament to this fact. We're the last remaining human species on earth. All other species of humans (Heidelbergensis, Neanderthal, Erectus, etc.) have succumbed to Darwinian forces. We are the evolutionary victors in a protracted battle for survival that dates back millions of years. We made it this far (albeit with heavy casualties along the way) by virtue of our highly evolved brains.

But, now, modern society balks at the idea of a couple with a large age disparity. Just go outside and take a look around you. What is the ONE thing that virtually all couples have in common? They're age-matched. You will occasionally see disparity in looks among couples, but rarely a large disparity in age. That's because women abhor older men. Old sperm is weak and degraded and less capable of producing strong offspring. Society knows this now. That's why it shames older men from trying to hook up with young women. It's why it tells them to find an "age-appropriate" woman. The last thing society wants is a proliferation of inferior sperm impregnating females in their prime. No. Society wants to control the quality of people being born by keeping older men coupled up with older, postmenopausal females their own age. This way, their inferior sperm is quarantined, and safely out of the gene pool.
