This is false equivalence. The whole phenomena of placebos can be applied to a wide range of issues, from physiological to psychological. No fap supporters usually advocate for the latter, which is a perfectly viable thing to do. Is it so absurd to think that cutting the habit where you orgasm to manufactured sexual acts (in front of a screen, no less) on a daily basis would have some sort of effect on your life?

I'll also point out your false dilemma, as you insist that if something doesn't work for everyone then the only other possible outcome is that it's invalid as a whole.
