I use reaper for the recording and tracking.

Amp Sims like amplitube and waves pluggins.

You need an audio interface to connect the microphone and the guitar.

Most of it just comes from trial and error. I still have a lot to learn.

Starting out on acoustic is a good way to get into making songs.
